Early this morning, Gloria Steinem tweeted our previous phone bank page so we had to move things in an attempt to minimize the risk of trolls coming out from under the bridge and dragging away unsuspecting victims (Virginia voters). Here is a fresh copy page and THANK YOU for making these calls today!!

We are ONE VOTE AWAY from a ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in Virginia and YOU can turn out equality supporters this November!!

ActionID phone banks are open seven days a week, 9 AM and 9 PM EST. Simply read the notes below and click into a district’s phone bank and you will find the script and voters to call.

As this is a nonpartisan campaign, call lists are based upon age and voter behavior, not party affiliation. Phone banks will cover all 20 districts from the 20/20 Vision for Equality (+ 2 Honorable Mentions).

This page is hosted on our website but cannot be found without the link. You are welcome to share it with like-minded friends or in a closed group of like-minded advocates, but please do not post it publicly. #NoTrolls

A few quick notes:

  1. You will need an actionID account to participate in our phone banks. OpenVPB accounts are free and when you click a phone bank link a browser tab will open and take you to openvpb.com where you can log on or open an account.
  2. We will continue to add phone banks through Election Day, November 5th. Phone banks are available by district below, simply click the link on an age group/location combination within a key district.
  3. Every call is valuable, even if you do not speak with someone. Voicemail messages are usually received and flagging a wrong number helps with data cleanup.
  4. If you are calling from out of state and someone asks why you are calling Virginia voters we recommend an answer along these lines, “I am a pay equity / gender equality advocate and I want to help Virginia make history.”
  5. The phone bank will open in a new tab. If you have any problems or if the connection glitches please close the tab, come back to this page, and relaunch.
Note: If the link below takes you to the OpenVPB page and you are asked for a code (versus taking you directly to a phone banking script), either the phone bank was completed and the link has not yet been archived or you are not calling between 9 AM and 9 PM.
  6. Please keep our FAQ link open in a third tab in case someone has a question so you can easily answer it. If a caller wants to spin the conversation in directions that are not supportive of the ERA simply thank them for their time and disengage.
  7. Have fun!

Helpful hints:

Memorize the script opening in case the screen lags behind and you get a caller on the phone. Although the script is put together into one long paragraph, make sure you are asking a question and waiting for the answer before reading the next sentence. After you’ve made a few calls it will feel more natural.

Hi, I’m [ your first name ] with VAratifyERA. Is _____ available?

*pause / wait for the answer

Do you know anyone who doesn’t receive equal pay for equal work?

We came close to fixing that last year but it was voted down.

*click the button associated with whether or not you connected with the user

Everything you need to say to a voter is on the right side of your screen including their name so just read and relax.

As you read along, click the buttons with answers and the script will advance.

To log on:
